Just trying to find my Ketut

Whether you are seeking a holiday full of activities or a more relaxed one, Bali can fit either. Days spent by the pool, fitting in a massage here and a long lunch there.

I stayed at Bali Mandira in Legian and couldn't fault a single thing about the resort. It had delicious and affordable food, two enormous pools (one for adults only), a spa & massage centre and a gift shop. The staff were friendly, willing to help you with anything and went over and above with everything. The resort was closely located to Legian Beach and was a short walk from many eateries, shops and markets. The ever popular Kuta is a 15 minute drive or 30 minute walk from Legian.

Things To Do In Bali

White Water Rafting was an incredibly fun day. The scenery was incredible as we navigated our way through the rainforest. Places to do white water rafting are everywhere and not expensive.

Bali Zoo is huge and enclosures animals from all over the world. A fun day is guaranteed when you can ride elephants, feed a tiger and pet a baby goat all in the same place.

A trip to the mountains of Ubud is a must. I would recommend staying 1-3 nights up there as it is very relaxing. ‘The Lokha’ Ubud was a beautiful hotel in amongst the rainforest and close to the rice paddies. The markets in central Ubud sell more arty items and are generally cheaper than Kuta and Legian.

One of the best temples to see in Ubud is Tirta Empul. Tourists can go into the water as part of a purification bathing ritual. Ensure you are dressed modestly and prepare to be amazed at a true Balinese temple.

The monkey forest in Ubud is worth going to. Those scared of monkeys jumping on them, relax! They will only jump on your if you have a banana or something they are interested in. I would recommend wearing your least favourite shirt as they are likely to leave some dirt on your clothes.

Food in Bali

Potato Head is one of the most popular tourist spots and is often seen on social media. Getting to the venue early in the day is a must. By nightfall, the place is packed and you won’t be able to get a spot without a booking. Drink and food are fairly expensive here, but the cocktails are definitely worth the price tag. Located right on the beachfront, a beautiful pool is free for all guests to use.

Similar to Potato Head but with a slightly older crowd and better food. The food at Ku De Ta and wait staff were perfect. Similar to Potato Head it is also on the beachfront with a stunning pool to dip your toes in.

Mozzarella By The Sea was Delicious. By far my favourite restaurant I ate at. Not only was the food amazing, but it was cheap. Two entrees, two mains, two desserts and four drinks only added up to $40.

Want Entertainment and food? Go to Billy's. Good prices and the food was also quite tasty. They play live music at night and some of the staff like to be involved in the spotlight. It is a very funny place and the staff make sure everyone has a good time.

Overall

My experiences in Bali were good. Customer service in all establishments was of high quality and is hard to find in Australia. All of the tourist attractions were worth the visit and if there were charges, they were low. It is easy to find a taxi or transportation and is always cheap.

The downsides to Bali is that the streets are fairly dirty. They aren't held to the same expectations of Australia and you will spot it at times. The bartering system in stalls can be irritating and annoying. While at first, it can be fun to barter your shopping down to the lowest price, it can get exhausting.

Ultimately I would go back, however, I would go for a shorter time. A week would be enough to see what you want and buy what you need.
