How To Pack Like A Seasoned Traveller

Ensure you have good, sturdy luggage that won’t fall apart

The last thing you want is to have to spend your money on a new suitcase. Think of all the croissants you could be eating instead!

  • I personally use ‘American Tourister’. Not only do they have funky colours to choose from but they are a highly reliable brand.

  • Place something on your bag to ensure you can tell it apart even if there is another exactly the same to yours. Eg. a travel tag, bright scarf, bag buckles.

Pack way under your weight limit

Every airline has a different weight limit, so be sure to check before you depart.

  • Packing as light as you can ensure you won’t have to restrict yourself from buying everything you want.

  • On my first solo trip to Europe, I bought two heavy Christmas jumpers in the first two days. Always be prepared for when you need a singing Christmas jumper for yourself and a light up one for your mate!

Aim for a backpack as carry-on

Especially if you’re travelling solo. Being able to use both hands unrestricted is a must.

  • Airlines don’t allow you to carry more than 30 mL of liquid and like you to have them separated when going through customs and security. Have them in a clear snap lock bag, that way you can just grab the whole bag, rather than rummaging through all your bits and pieces.

Limit yourself to three pairs of shoes

Only three pairs??!! Yes, only three pairs. Shoes are heavy and take up a lot of room.

  • Generally, a pair of boots, some sort of sneaker and a going out shoe are all you'll need.

  • Take a couple of plastic bags for your shoes, this prevents any dirt going onto your clothes while they're in your luggage.

  • Going somewhere summery? I would recommend a pair of sneakers, thongs and again a nice going out shoe such as sandals.

Roll with it…. the flow and your clothes!

This not only allows you to see what’s in your bag easier but is more space efficient.

  • Roll items such as perfume bottles, hair straighteners and generally anything that could be fragile in your clothes.

Bag your liquids

A shampoo eruption all over your clothes is not fun, trust me!

  • Simply pop each bottle in its own plastic bag and put in the middle of your bag so it won’t smash against the ground.
